Shohei Ohtani is the 2025 Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award winner.
This is the fifth consecutive season that Ohtani has been bestowed with the honor. He ties Red Sox Hall of Famer David Ortiz for the most consecutive awards. Ortiz won five of his eight Edgar Martinez awards from 2003 to 2007 with Boston.
Ohtani’s five awards rank second all-time. He’s tied with former Mariners DH Edgar Martinez. In 2024, he became the first Dodger to win the award.
Ohtani finished the season with a .282/.392/.622/1.014 slash line as a designated hitter. In his second season as the Dodgers’ designated hitter, he recorded 55 home runs, 102 RBI, 146 runs, 109 walks and nine triples in 158 games.
He set new career records in runs, triples, home runs and walks.
Ohtani led all MLB designated hitters in at-bats (611), runs (146), stolen bases (20), triples (9), walks (109), intentional walks (20), total bases (380) and wRC (143) this season.
Ohtani won three Outstanding Designated Hitter awards with the Angels before he joined the Dodgers.
