There’s trouble in paradise for the Dodgers. The Dodgers have now dropped 10 of their last 12 games, losing all six games against the Milwaukee Brewers in the process and watching their division lead shrink to 3 1⁄2 games over the San Diego padres.
Adding injury to the Dodgers insulting play in the month of July, Clayton Kershaw was tasked with being the guy to stop the flooding that has been the team’s consistent losing, and although he managed three scoreless innings, his defense let him down with three errors soon after, forcing him out of the game in the top of the fifth inning.
Kershaw contained himself when speaking with Kirsten Watson of SportsNet LA after the Brewers’ weekend sweep of the Dodgers, expressing his and the team’s frustration amidst a cruel summer.
“I thought I pitched okay, just made some mistakes and I was just frustrated. We’re not playing well as a team. I wanted to help win the game today, and I didn’t do enough to do it. It’s frustrating.”

After nearly a year worth of experimenting with the top of the Dodgers’ everyday lineup, Mookie Betts was back at the leadoff spot for the first time on Sunday since Shohei Ohtani presumed the role last June due to injury.
Although Betts’ lineout to center field with the bases loaded ended the Dodgers’ chances at a walk-off victory, he did snap an 0-12 skid heading into Sunday, and Dave Roberts believes that the move will allow Betts to set the table for the rest of the lineup and will give Ohtani some breathing room during start days, per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.
“It’s something he’s obviously been accustomed to throughout his career (and) will put him in a mindset of just to get on base. Just trying to take good at-bats, set the table for Shohei (Ohtani) and the guys behind him.”
Some good news during this grueling stretch, Max Muncy is making good progress while rehabbing his knee injury. There is still no timeline for his return, but Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times notes that it is sooner than what the team initially expected.
“He’s in great shape right now,” Roberts said Friday. “I don’t really know a timeline. But I do know … it’s going to be a lot sooner than anticipated, which is good for all of us.”
