Jack Flaherty entered free agency this offseason having been crowned a World Series champion and ranking 13th among all qualified starting pitchers in ERA.
With pitchers and catchers reporting for spring training in just one month, Flaherty remains unsigned and with that, the chances of him securing a long-term deal are growing slim.
Flaherty and free agent outfielder Anthony Santander have expressed their interest in signing a short-term, high AAV deal, per Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic.
At least two — right-hander Jack Flaherty and outfielder Anthony Santander — are open to considering short-term deals with high average annual values, according to league sources briefed on their discussions.
The Baltimore Orioles were previously interested in Flaherty after losing Corbin Burnes to the Arizona Diamondbacks, but with the recent signing of Charlie Morton, the Orioles’ interest in Flaherty waned.

Ill-minded actions do in fact have consequences, as the two fans, Austin Capobianco and John P. Hansen, have been banned from attending Major League Baseball games at every single stadium indefinitely. In a letter from an MLB official obtained by The Post, the league wrote to the banned fans in part: “Your conduct posed a serious risk to the health and safety of the player and went far over the line of acceptable fan behavior. Based on your conduct, Major League Baseball is banning you indefinitely from all MLB stadiums, offices, and other facilities.”
