The Dodgers losing seven games in a row tightened things up a bit in the National League West, but them winning the final two over the Giants in San Francisco over the weekend kept Los Angeles comfortably atop the division heading into the All-Star break.
The other divisional tilt of the week saw the Padres and Diamondbacks split four games in San Diego. Machado got his 2,000th career hit on Monday, part of a strong week with three home runs and nine hits, including three multi-hit games.
Yu Darvish returned to the mound for San Diego as well over missing the first three-plus months, but allowed six runs over 8⅓ innings in his two starts.
The Padres also won a series won series over the Phillies at home. It was a rough week within the NL West for Philadelphia, who also lost two of three to the Giants in San Francisco.
Eugenio Suárez hit three more home runs for Arizona, giving him 31 on the season, just one behind Shohei Ohtani for the NL lead. Suárez, headed to his second All-Star Game, leads in the NL with 78 runs batted in.
But Arizona lost a series at the Angels over the weekend, giving the D-backs another losing week.
The Rockies had a tough time with their 1975 World Series road trip, first getting swept at Fenway Park, then dropping two of three to the Reds at Cincinnati. After the opening weekend of the season, there have been 15 full weeks of baseball thus far in 2025, and the Rockies have lost at least five games in 11 of those 15 weeks.
At 22-74, the Rockies have the worst record through 96 games by any major league team since the 1916 Philadelphia A’s were 19-77.
