While the Dodgers ran the gamut of milestones, sweeping the White Sox, losing Max Muncy, and getting swept by the Astros, here’s a look at what else happened in the National League West last week.
The Giants were the only team in the division with a winning record for the week, going 4-3. Shortstop Willy Adames was on fire, going 11-for-26 (.423), with a pair of three-hit games, four RBI to beat the A’s on Saturday, and a home run with three more RBI on Sunday.
Justin Verlander had his worst start with the Giants on Friday, allowing six runs in three innings to the A’s, and is winless in his 14 starts this season with a 4.94 ERA.
While Clayton Kershaw got his 3,000th strikeout last week, Padres third baseman Manny Machado ended his week at 1,998 career hits.
Dylan Cease took the loss on Wednesday in Philadelphia, falling to 3-8 on the season with a 4.62 ERA. Thomas Conroy at Gaslamp Ball weighed in on whether it’s time for the Padres to trade the pending free agent.
San Diego got some good news over the weekend, with Yu Darvish set to make his season debut on Monday.
Corbin Carroll returned on Saturday after missing two and a half weeks with a chip fracture in his left wrist. He was 0-for-9 with five strikeouts in his first two games back.
The Diamondbacks split four games at home against the Giants, but then lost two of three to the Royals.
The battle of the two worst teams in MLB happened over the weekend at Coors Field, and the White Sox took two of three over the Rockies.
Also this week, the Rockies added a uniform sleeve patch sponsor, notes Joelle Milholm at Purple Row.
