With the 2025 MLB Draft now just one day away, the final round of mock drafts are upon us. On Thursday, Jonathan Mayo unveiled the latest mock from MLB Pipeline, which included local high school third baseman and outfielder Quentin Young at 40th overall, then Tennessee pitcher Marcus Phillips at 41st.
Young has been mentioned at various places as a potential Dodgers pick, and we wrote about him back in March.
Phillips had a 3.90 ERA in 17 starts as a junior for Tennessee this season, with 98 strikeouts and 34 walks in 83 innings. The 6’4, 246-pound right-hander had a 27.7-percent strikeout rate and 10-percent walk rate.
Phillips’ dad Steve played in the minors in the Yankees system from 1991-95 and later managed in the Expos and Marlins systems
Phillips is rated as the 61st-best prospect in the draft by MLB Pipeline, and was ranked 67th by Baseball America.
From the Baseball America write-up:
He has a power fastball that is consistently in the mid 90s and has been up to 101 mph. He throws a high-spin fastball with just modest life that has caused it to play a tick down from its velocity, though Phillips made impressive strides improving his command of the pitch in 2025. He pairs his fastball with a hard, 84-88 mph slider that has modest life and great power. It’s a high-spin offering that gets into the 2,700 rpm range and could become a plus breaking pitch with more consistency.
The MLB Draft is a two-day affair from Atlanta, with the Dodgers making four selections on Sunday night.
