When the Dodgers placed 34-year-old third baseman Max Muncy on the 10-day IL for a bone bruise to his left knee on July 2, the hope was that it would indeed be only 10 days.
Nope.
He is now expected to be out until at least the second week of August.

Needless to say, although Muncy’s defense at the hot corner is sometimes less than ideal, losing his .250/.375/.457/.832 bat that includes 10 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, and 55 RBI is irreplaceable – especially by 36-year-old utility infielder Miguel Rojas, who is absolutely horrible at the position. Add to that, Rojas’ .246/.288/.390/.678 slash line, which includes 16 strikeouts in 118 at-bats (13.6 %), is flat out DFA-able.

When Muncy landed on the IL, a good many Dodgers fans said (or thought) “Meh, no big deal, we’ll be fine.” There is now an exceptionally good chance that those same Dodgers fans are saying (or thinking) “Max! Help!
While some may be indifferent to Muncy’s absence, the simple truth is that he is WAY better than Rojas will ever be at third base.
Play ball!
