Dodgers have scored 8 total runs in their 5-game losing streak, their lowest offensive output in that long of a stretch in 8 years.
Jacob Misiorowski and Clayton Kershaw were using different toolboxes, but they built an entertaining pitching duel for the first six innings on Tuesday night in Milwaukee. The Brewers got the better of the Dodgers for a second straight game, this one a much closer affair at 3-1.
Misiorowski in his fifth major league start was the more dominant pitcher, but both he and Kerhsaw, in his 18th season, got through six innings in a low-scoring affair, each walking their only batter during their final frame. They both pounded the zone, combining to throw 71 percent of their pitches for strikes, but did so in different ways.
Kershaw’s fastest pitch was a 90.6-mph fastball in the fifth inning. Misiorowski threw 72 of his 91 pitches faster than that, including 24 sliders and six changeups.
Shohei Ohtani slammed an 0-2 curveball over the wall in center field to open the game, but that was the only run against Misiorowski.

Ohtani’s 31 home runs surpassed Cody Bellinger in 2019 for the most home runs by a Dodger before the All-Star break. But schedules can vary over the years. Through 93 team games, Ohtani ranks third for most home runs in franchise history, behind Duke Snider’s 33 in 1955 and Gary Sheffield’s 32 in 2000.
Other Dodgers hit the ball hard off Misiorowski, including a leadoff double in the third inning by Miguel Rojas, but he was stranded. Mookie Betts slammed a ball 100 mph during that frame, but it was to the deepest part of the ballpark, which meant for a long out on the warning track instead of a two-run home run.
Problem was, not too many balls were put into play by the Dodgers against Misiorowski, who struck out 12. That’s the most strikeouts in a game against the Dodgers since Ohtani fanned a dozen in seven innings for the Angels on June 21, 2023 in Anaheim.
Misiorowski’s first walk was to Ohtani to lead off the sixth, followed by an infield single by Betts to put the Dodgers in business. But three groundouts ended that threat and finished Misiorowski’s dominant outing.
Milwaukee’s first two hits against Kershaw were both infield dribblers up the third base line by catcher William Contreras. The latter was followed by four other singles in the fourth inning that got to the outfield to score a pair of runs. The frame could have been much worse for Kershaw, but Michael Conforto threw out Andrew Vaughn at third trying to take an extra base in the middle of the melee.
Kershaw struck out three in six innings for the second straight start, and didn’t walk a batter until the sixth. Two reached in that inning, but Kershaw induced a double play to end his night and keep the Dodgers to within a run at the time.
Sal Frelick homered off Kiby Yates in the eighth inning to double Milwaukee’s advantage, making it even harder on a struggling offense.
The Dodgers were held to exactly one run for a fourth time in their last five games, all losses. They’ve scored only eight total runs during that stretch, their fewest in any five-game stretch since a pair of overlapping seven-run stretches in September 2017.
