The minor league week started with three of four Dodgers affiliates winning on Tuesday night.
Player of the day
Mairoshendrick Martinus hit his second home run of the season, part of a well-rounded game for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga. In addition to the solo home run, Martinus also singled, stole two bases, scored twice, and drove in three runs.
Martinus has mixed in time at third base and all three outfield spots for the Quakes, and was playing left field on Tuesday. Martinus, signed out of Curacao in January 2022, struggled mightily in June, hitting just .176/.240/.231. The 20-year-old had just one multi-hit game during the month, but now has two such contests in his last three games.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
Four two-out walks in the eighth inning broke a 1-1 tie in the Comets’ win over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Astros). Hunter Feduccia got the fourth walk, giving him the game-winning RBI.
Aside from the eighth inning, Oklahoma City only had two more walks and two hits, but one of the hits was by shortstop Noah Miller, his first Triple-A home run.
Kyle Funkhouser helped keep the game low-scoring with 5⅔ scoreless frames with five strikeouts in his start.
Double-A Tulsa
Peter Heubeck struck out eight and walked none, but allowed four runs in his five innings in the Drillers’ road loss to the Arkansas Travelers (Mariners).
Second baseman Taylor Young singled twice, walked twice, stole two bases, and scored two of Tulsa’s four runs. Catcher Yeiner Fernandez had three singles and drove in a pair.
High-A Great Lakes
Cam Decker hit his second game-winning home run in a row, a three-run shot in the seventh inning to give the Loons a one-run triumph over the Lansing Lugnuts (A’s). He also hit the go-ahead shot in Sunday’s win over West Michigan.
Wyatt Crowell pitched a career-best 5⅓ innings, and allowed two runs with four strikeouts and three walks. Decker’s home run got him off the hook for a tough-luck loss.
Cam Day followed with 2⅓ scoreless frames to earn the win.
Low-A Rancho Cucamonga
Second baseman Niko Perez doubled and drove in three in his two-hit game. He and Martinus combined to drive in 60 percent of the Quakes’ total in a home win over the Inland Empire 66ers (Angels).
Eduardo Quintero homered to the opposite field in the first inning, his 14th of the season to lead the California League.
Transactions
Triple-A: Right-hander Alexis Díaz was called up to the Dodgers in a fresh arm swap with Julian Fernández sent back down. With James Outman and a few relievers called up this week to the majors, outfielder Jose Ramos and left-hander Ronan Kopp were promoted from Double-A Tulsa to Oklahoma City. Veteran infielder Michael Chavis and left-hander Ben Harris, an eighth-round draft pick in 2021, were released.
High-A: Outfielder Mike Sirota was placed on the injured list on Sunday, one day after getting hurt while stealing a base. Left-hander Myles Caba was promoted from Low-A to the Loons.
Low-A: Catcher Angel Diaz was placed on the injured list. Pitcher Justin Chambers — who was acquired from the Brewers for Bryan Hudson in January 2024 — and catcher Carlos Avila were promoted to the Quakes from the Arizona Complex League. It’s the first time at a full-season affiliate for the 19-year-old Chambers, who pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.
