With pitchers and catchers set to report to Camelback Ranch in less than a week, the Dodgers can take solace knowing they had one of the most exorbitant offseasons in baseball history.
The Dodgers strengthened their outfield by signing Michael Conforto, extending Tommy Edman, and bringing back postseason hero Teoscar Hernández. They added to an already gaudy rotation with the signings of Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki. They signed two of the best free agent relief options in Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates while bringing back Blake Treinen on a two-year deal. Not to mention the addition of a defensive Swiss Army knife in former KBO star Hyeseong Kim.
The Dodgers are already heavily favored as champions for the 2025 season, as they look to become the first repeat champions in baseball since the New York Yankees of the late 1990’s. For infielder Miguel Rojas, the team will be determined to win every single game ahead of them, noting that if everyone is healthy, they have the potential to win 120 games.
Rojas recently appeared on the Chris Rose Rotation podcast to discuss the upcoming season.
“This year, if everyone is healthy, it’s another story. If you throw those guys out there, you’ll win 120 games… I know it’s a lot, but with that roster, you’re supposed to go out there and win.”
The closest any team has gotten to that win total is still the 2001 Seattle Mariners with 116. The Dodgers are the only team this decade to eclipse 110 wins in a single season with 111 in 2022.
A couple of former Dodgers have signed minor league deals with two American League West teams.
First is former Dodgers reliever Victor Gonzalez, who signed a minor league pact with the Angels.
Gonzalez pitched in 93 games for the Dodgers from 2020 to 2023, accumulating a 3.22 ERA in 89 1⁄3 innings with a 134 ERA+. Gonzalez, alongside former Dodgers southpaw Caleb Ferguson, spent the 2024 season with the New York Yankees, where he posted a 3.86 ERA in 27 games before being released in September.
Nick Ahmed will be joining his first organization outside of the NL West since 2012, as he signed a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers with an invitation to spring training.
Ahmed appeared in just 17 games for the Dodgers last season, slashing .229/.245/.292 with a home run and two RBIs. He was released on August 22, and finished the season with the San Diego Padres, his third NL West team of 2024.
