The Dodgers have agreed on a one-year contract with Miguel Rojas that will allow the veteran infielder to finish his career with the team.
The deal is reportedly for a $5.5 million salary in 2026. The 36-year-old Rojas has said he plans to retire after next season and he wanted to finish with the Dodgers.
“That’s something that I’m gonna talk to Andrew (Friedman) and Gomesy (Brandon Gomes) and be really open about what my goals are,” Rojas said after Game 7 of the World Series last month. “I just want to be here. … Hopefully, it syncs up with what they want to do. But Shohei just told me today, I’m not allowed to retire for next year.
“This is my priority. I want to sign here. I already told the guys my desire to be with this organization. I think we deserve another run.”
Rojas made his major-league debut with the Dodgers in 2014 then was traded to the Miami Marlins in 2015. He spent the next eight seasons with the Marlins before rejoining the Dodgers in a January 2023 trade for infielder Jacob Amaya.
Rojas spent the past three seasons as a key piece of the Dodgers’ bench and a clubhouse leader. An adept defender, he has filled in at second base, shortstop and third base and mentored Mookie Betts in his transition to full-time shortstop.
Rojas’ offensive contributions have been middling. He had a .259 batting average and a .685 OPS over the past three seasons. But he came through with one of the most important home runs in Dodgers history when he tied Game 7 of the 2025 World Series with a ninth-inning home run. It was the first game-tying home run hit in the ninth inning of a World Series game.
