In a move anticipated by many, the Dodgers traded 27-year-old right-hander Dustin May and 28-year-old outfielder James Outman prior to Thursday’s 6 pm (ET) MLB trade deadline.

As noted, the Dodgers received 22-year-old outfielder/first baseman James Tibbs III for May and 33-year old right-hander (and former Dodger) Brock Stewart for Outman.
May, who the Dodgers drafted in the third round in 2016 out of Northwest High School in Justin, TX, posted an 18-16 record and 3.71 ERA with 271 strikeouts and 100 walks over his combined six seasons with the Dodgers. However, it was (probably) the 16 home runs and 60 runs allowed to the 451 batters he faced in his 19 games (18 starts) with the Dodgers this season that (probably) prompted his trade from the defending World Series Champions; that and several lingering health issues.

In his three-plus seasons with the Dodgers, Outman slashed a combined .244/.330/.401/.730, with 23 doubles, three triples, 30 home runs, and 88 RBI.

In his three-plus seasons with the Dodgers, Stewart posted a 2-3 record, with a 5.46 ERA, 71 strikeouts, and 42 walks, while allowing 17 home runs to the 384 opposing batters he faced in his combined 84.0 innings pitched. He spent the 2020 season pitching in the Independent League and missed the entire 2021 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Tibbs slashed .234/.344/.389/.733 over his four seasons in the Giants and Red Sox minor league systems, having not advanced beyond the Double-A level.
Ehrhard slashed .248/.350/.387/.737 in his two seasons in the Red Sox minor league system, also having not advanced beyond Double-A.
