Only seven players have hit 200 home runs with the Dodgers, including just four since the franchise moved to Los Angeles. Muncy is 10 homers shy of joining that group.
Among the milestones well within reach for Dodgers in 2025 is Max Muncy closing in on 200 career home runs, needing only five long balls. Nearly all of those have been hit since joining Los Angeles.
Muncy signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers in 2017 after playing parts of two seasons with the A’s. He was called up to the Dodgers in mid-April 2018 and has basically been hitting home runs ever since. Muncy hit 35 home runs in each of his first two years with the Dodgers, and hit 36 home runs in both 2021 and 2023. Last season, he hit 15 home runs in 73 games, as he spent half the season on the injured list with an oblique strain.
Since joining the Dodgers, Muncy’s 190 home runs are tied for 12th-most in the majors. He’s tied with Rafael Devers, who told reporters in Red Sox spring training last week, “Third base is my position. … It’s what I play,” even though Boston signed Alex Bregman, a superior fielder at the position. Contrast that with Muncy, who has moved around the infield as needed with Los Angeles. He was an All-Star as a first baseman in 2021, but has played mostly third base in the three seasons since once Freddie Freeman fell into the Dodgers’ lap.
Muncy’s 190 home runs already rank ninth in franchise history. Only seven Dodgers have hit 200 homers with the team, with Matt Kemp the last to reach the milestone in 2018.
If Muncy hits at least 22 home runs in 2025, he’ll move into sole possession of sixth place on the Dodgers’ leaderboard, ahead of Steve Garvey (211 home runs). It would take a new career high for Muncy to catch Ron Cey for fifth place at 228 homers, 38 more than Muncy.
In 2024, Muncy hit nine home runs in the Dodgers’ first 45 games before straining his oblique. He hit his 10th homer in his first game back, on August 19, then added another home run one day later.
Muncy needs 10 home runs to reach 200 with Los Angeles. Today’s question is when will Muncy hit his 200th home run with the Dodgers?
Since joining the team, the Dodgers have played 1,018 games; Muncy has, on average, hit one home run roughly every 5.4 team games, which factors in time missed for injuries. For the games he’s played in, Muncy with the Dodgers has averaged one home run roughly every 4.3 games.
