Muncy was 5-for-15 in five games on a rehab assignment with Oklahoma City. Roque Gutierrez took efficiency to another level with 63 pitch seven-inning performance for Tulsa
In Dodgers minor league action on Sunday, we had a 0-0 tie going into extra innings, and if that doesn’t excite you, we had a 12-10 slugfest.
Player of the day
Roque Gutierrez is a name even Dodger prospect watchers might not be familiar with. He is a five-foot-nine, 22-year-old right-hander who has been in the Dodgers organization for five years and has worked his way up to Double-A. He has pitched in exactly 100 games, only 19 of them have been starts. His record doesn’t stand out; his cumulative ERA is 4.95, WHIP 1.338, and batting average against .250. However, on this day, he needed an astoundingly-low 63 pitches to get through seven scoreless, one-hit innings. Rumor has it they are making a movie about this game, it’s called “Roquey.”
Triple-A Oklahoma City
Max Muncy is warming up as he recovers from getting hit in the knee by a runaway train. After getting three hits yesterday, he followed up with a home run and a double in three at-bats, part of a dozen-run explosion in a 12-10 Comets win over the Salt Lake Bees (Angels).
Max Muncy is sure starting to look like himself.

CJ Alexander had three hits and four RBIs. The pitchers didn’t fare very well in this game. Starter Kyle Funkhouser lasted two innings, giving up four runs. Nick Frasso (5.85) gave up a run, and Edgardo Henriquez (6.43) gave up two runs. Both are sporting chunky ERAs in the offensively oriented Pacific Coast League.
Double-A Tulsa
The Drillers won 1-0 over the Midland RockHounds (Athletics) in ten innings, in a game that did not feature a single extra-base hit. Gutierrez gave up a lone infield hit in seven shutout innings. Nelson Quiroz had the game-winning single in the tenth inning.
High-A Great Lakes
The Fort Wayne TinCaps (Padres) scored all five runs in an ugly second inning on their way to a 5-2 win over the Loons. A walk, HBP, catcher’s interference, and another walk produced a run without a batted ball and loaded the bases. Two singles and a throwing error completed the damage. Maddux Bruns now has an ERA of 8.03. Wilman Diaz hit a two-run homer for the Loons’ only scoring.
Low-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes lost a tight game to the Fresno Grizzlies (Rockies) 3-2. Four shutout innings by starting pitcher Marlon Nieves went to waste when the Quakes could only muster two runs on four hits. The Grizzlies pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth to break a 2-2 tie, and provide the winning margin.
Something extra to enjoy from Saturday’s POTD
Emil Morales had TWO home runs last night for Rancho, and the last one was a BOMB to dead center.
Kid has some power!
