The Dodgers have added more punch into the starting lineup.
Max Muncy and Tommy Edman were activated from the injured list on Monday. They are both starting in the series opener against the Seattle Mariners at Dodger Stadium.
Muncy has been on the injured list since May 17 with a right oblique strain. During his rehab assignment in Triple-A Oklahoma City, the 33-year-old hit .286/.375/.476/.851 with one home run in six games (24 plate appareances).
He last appeared in a game for the Dodgers on May 15, where he went 0-for-3 against the Giants.
He’ll be hitting from the seventh spot in the lineup on Monday.
Edman is making his season debut after he was acquired at the trade deadline from the St. Louis Cardinals. He has been on the injured list all season due to wrist surgery and a sprained ankle.
“Since getting traded, it’s kind of flown by,” Edman said. “I’m excited to play some big-league games. I haven’t really been on the injured list very much my whole career up until this year, so it feels very weird not to play.”
Edman played four positions last season for the Cardinals — the most being at second base (51 games). He batted .248/.307/.399/.705 with 13 home runs and 47 RBI in 137 games.
He’ll play in center field for his Dodger debut, then he will be at shortstop on Tuesday, said manager Dave Roberts.
The Dodgers needed to make two rosters move to activate Muncy and Edman. Nick Ahmed was designated for assignment and Andy Pages was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
“It’s one of those things because he has options and you just don’t want to lose a player, I just didn’t see Andy getting a lot of opportunities.” Roberts said.
Austin Barnes was placed on the injured list after sustaining a left big toe fracture from a foul ball on Sunday. Roberts said he doesn’t envision the catcher being on the injured list for more than 10 days.
Hunter Feduccia was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma. He belted six home runs and 46 RBI in 73 games for Oklahoma City while batting .282.
Freeman to Continue Playing
Freddie Freeman sustained a hairline fracture in his right middle finger on Saturday when he fielded a ground ball in the sixth inning. He will not be placed on the injured list.
“Freddie has a high tolerance so he’s going to play,” Roberts said. “He couldn’t really brush his teeth or his hair since the swelling was still there, but it all dissipated. He feels like he should give it a go.”
Freeman did not play in Sunday’s series finale due to the injury.
