In the same week that Clayton Kershaw achieved the historic achievement of 3,000 strikeouts, he now has another milestone.
Kershaw now has a franchise record 11 All-Star selections, passing Hall of Famer Pee Wee Reese.
The 18-year veteran and longtime ace of the Dodgers as well as emerging ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto were named to the 2025 National League All-Star team on Sunday when reserves and pitchers were revealed.
Kershaw has made nine starts this season and has a 4–0 record and 3.43 ERA. The Dodgers are 7–2 in his starts.
On the history topic, the Dodgers are the first team in National League history with two Japanese-born All-Stars in the same season.
Yamamoto joins Shohei Ohtani as an All-Star selection in 2025.
The 2001 and 2002 Seattle Mariners were represented by Japanese-born outfielder Ichiro Suzuki and pitcher Kazuhiro Sasaki on the American League All-Star team.
Ohtani, first baseman Freddie Freeman and catcher Will Smith will all represent the Dodgers as starters in July 15 game in Atlanta, giving the Dodgers five total All-Stars.
Yamamoto, in his second season in the Major Leagues, ranks third in the NL with a 2.51 ERA, fourth with a 1.01 WHIP and 10th with 109 strikeouts. He is 8–6 this season in 17 starts.
Yamamoto is also the third Japanese-born Dodger pitcher selected to an All-Star team, joining Hideo Nomo (1995) and Takashi Saito (2007). Nomo, in a historic season, was the NL starter in the 1995 All-Star Game.
