On Sunday in the Dodgers minor leagues, Tulsa found their offense but so did their opponents, plus big home runs for Oklahoma City and Great Lakes.
Player of the day
Kyle Nevin got a late start to his season, first sidelined for two months injured list before joining Great Lakes, and was just promoted to Tulsa this week. Sunday was just his third game with the Drillers, and the third baseman was in the middle of everything, driving in five runs and scoring three.
Nevin had a two-run single in the first inning, an RBI single in the sixth, plus two sacrifice flies and a walk.

Triple-A Oklahoma City
Ryan Ward continued to rake in the Comets’ win over the Las Vegas Aviators (A’s). He homered in the first inning, hit a two-run single in the second, then added an RBI single in the fifth. Ward has nine games with at least three hits this season and four games with at least four RBI.
Nick Senzel also homered in a three-hit game, and shortstop Noah Miller had two hits in his third game with Oklahoma City since getting promoted earlier in the week.
Alex Freeland had two hits and stole a base, and has played third base in all four games since Max Muncy was placed on the injured list. While the Dodgers are mulling position-player additions amid a handful of injuries, James Outman and Hunter Feduccia did not play for Oklahoma City on Sunday.
Left-hander Zach Penrod pitched three scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.
Double-A Tulsa
A crooked-number fest broke out in Sunday’s series finale, with the Drillers coming out on the wrong end of a 28-run affair against the Wichita Wind Surge (Twins).
Tulsa scored seven runs in the top of the first inning, only to give up five in the bottom of the frame. Drillers starter Roque Gutierrez got eight runs of support in his two innings but left a tie game.
Tulsa surged ahead with two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings, but Wichita plated four runs in the seventh to stay ahead for good.
Sean McLain hit a two-run home run for the Drillers. Griffin Lockwood-Powell singled twice, tripled, and walked. In the middle of the game, left-hander Jorge Benitez tossed 1⅔ scoreless innings, the only one of six Tulsa pitchers to not allow a run.
High-A Great Lakes
Cam Decker’s first home run in High-A gave the Loons a win over the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers). Decker had just two hits in 20 at-bats in his first seven games with Great Lakes this season before Sunday’s seventh-inning blast.
Josue De Paula singled twice, walked, stole a base, and was caught stealing. Zyhir Hope doubled and stole a base as well.
Carson Hobbs, the Dodgers’ 11th-round draft pick in 2023, pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the win. He has a 1.98 ERA and 33-percent strikeout rate in 27⅓ innings with the Loons this season.
Low-A Rancho Cucamonga
Ryan Brown allowed a tiebreaking solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning in the Quakes’ loss to the Visalia Rawhide (D-backs).
Rancho Cucamonga managed only two hits, but did walk nine times. Down 2-0 in the top of the eighth inning, the Quakes tied things up the hard way: walk, walk, hit by pitch, sacrifice fly (first run), walk, flyout, wild pitch (second, tying run), walk, strikeout
