Kicking off the Dodgers Dreamteam Season: A powerful start at Dodger Stadium

by Erin Edwards
The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) has officially launched another season of the Dodgers Dreamteam, reinforcing its mission to provide resources, mental health programming and safe spaces for youth across Los Angeles. This year’s kickoff was more than just a celebration — it was a call to action, as LADF and its partners recognized the urgent needs of the community in the wake of the recent wildfires that have left many families and children struggling.
On a morning filled with energy and purpose, LADF CEO Nichol Whiteman took the stage at Dodger Stadium to welcome attendees to the 12th Annual Dodgers Dreamteam Partners Meeting. More than just a gathering, this event served as a moment of reflection, solidarity and motivation for the critical work ahead.
“Given our most recent wildfires, I can’t help but dedicate a portion of this meeting to acknowledging that we are all navigating some trying times across Greater Los Angeles right now,” Whiteman said. “Please know that LADF is a safe space. Today is absolutely about planning and action, but it’s also about listening and healing.”
With that message in mind, LADF reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the community. In addition to our funding of LA Rises, LADF is committed to providing both immediate and long-term support to wildfire relief efforts leading to improved quality of life, confidence and possibilities for the people we serve across Greater Los Angeles and a strengthened community.
Together with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the 11 LA sports teams, LADF has provided $8 million in financial support to our local communities, produced an LA Strong T-shirt and hoodie and hosted a Dodger Stadium distribution. We also hosted a distribution in partnership with the City of Pasadena specific to those impacted by the Eaton Fire.

But beyond immediate relief, the wildfires have only emphasized the critical role that the Dodgers Dreamteam plays in the lives of thousands of young athletes. More than just a baseball and softball program, Dodgers Dreamteam is a lifeline — providing youth with mental health and education resources, leadership development and scholarships and quality green spaces to grow and thrive.
“Now more than ever, the outlet of baseball and softball and the resources that come with being part of the Dodgers Dreamteam are more needed than ever,” Whiteman said. “So we will continue to double down on our impact for Los Angeles.”
The meeting also celebrated the remarkable growth of the Dodgers Dreamteam. What began in 2014 with 2,700 youth participants has since expanded and will serve 15,000 participants in 2025, supported by 18 affiliate partners.
These milestones were celebrated with a special appearance from the 2024 World Series trophy — a symbol of perseverance and excellence.
LADF also hosted its Annual Affiliate Partners Training at Dodger Stadium from January 28–30. This training ensures that partner organizations are fully equipped to provide Dodgers Dreamteam participants with the highest-quality experience. From coaches to site directors, attendees engaged in hands-on workshops covering mental health programming, volunteer coach recruitment strategies and resources and best practices for fostering a positive youth sports environment.

With partners from Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation, YMCA, MLB Youth Academy, and more, the training reinforced LADF’s dedication to building a strong, knowledgeable, and passionate network of leaders who will guide young athletes through the 2025 season and beyond.
As LADF embarks on another season, the focus remains clear: expanding access, breaking down barriers and providing opportunities for youth who need them the most.
“Thanks to our incredible alliance, 2024 was a monumental season, and 2025 will be even greater,” Whiteman said. “Los Angeles needs us, and together, we will continue to show up for our kids, our families and our city.”
