It has long been said: “You can’t win ’em all,” an expression attributed to Boston Braves pitcher Cliff Curtis who said, “Oh well. You can’t win ’em all,” after losing his 23rd consecutive game during the 1910-1911 seasons.
It has also long been said: “There’s no such thing as a sure thing,” which is often attributed to Scottish poet Robert Burns (1759-1796).
It is abundantly clear (and obvious) that neither Curtis nor Burns had the opportunity to watch 37-year-old Dodgers ace and future first-ballot Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw (who comes as close to winning ’em all and a sure thing as one can get) pitch in a Major League game.
Check out this incredible (and head-spinning) stat from the popular site OptaSTATS:

“Yeah, it was a good August,” the Dodgers 11-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young Award-winning left-hander told reporters after his team’s 6-3 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds in front of a Dodger Stadium crowd of 44,943 on Tuesday night. “I don’t know, um… physically, everything feels really good. I think, you know, everything changes from start to start sometimes, but, you know, overall, it was great and team got alot of wins, which was great and, you know, fun to be a part of it this time of year,” the Dodgers ace added.

With (presumably) four or five starts remaining in the 2025 regular season, Kershaw is a Kershaw-like 9-2, with a Kershaw-like 3.06 ERA. He struck out 58 of the 356 batters he has faced in his 17 starts thus far this season, while walking only 21.
Clayton Kershaw – Still the Master.
