Justin Wrobleski almost perfect in 6-inning OKC start

Wrobleski allows no earned runs in six innings in Triple-A, with Ward driving in three more runs. In High-A, a mysterious Futures Game after-effect has Great Lakes stars swinging at air.

In Dodgers’ minor league action, the Ryan Ward fireworks show continues, Justin Wrobleski wrocks and wrolls, and the Quakes experience liquefaction.

Player of the day

Justin Wrobleski nearly had a six perfect innings. Five of his six innings were perfect, and the other inning would have been 1-2-3 if not for Wrobleski’s own error. Wrobleski retired his first 10 batters faced until committing a throwing error in the fourth inning. A passed ball and two-out single brought home the only run against him, unearned, in a six-inning, six-strikeout performance.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Comets combined dominant pitching with bountiful hitting in a 14-3 blowout win over the Sacramento River Cats. Wrobleski was on his game, pitching a six-inning one-hitter with no walks and six strikeouts. Ronan Kopp and Alexis Diaz both added a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

RBI supreme leader Ryan Ward produced three more RBIs on a home run, a double, and a sacrifice fly.

Double-A Tulsa

It was a bullpen day for the Tulsa Drillers, who used seven pitchers, six of whom didn’t give up a run. Brandon Neeck, the middle pitcher of the group, gave up three runs in the fifth inning, and that was enough for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Royals), who won 3-2.

High-A Great Lakes

Payton Martin and Wyatt Crowell pitched the bulk innings as four pitchers combined to hold the Dayton Dragons (Reds) to one run and three hits in a 4-1 victory. The Loons, who were limited to four hits themselves, pieced together a three-run fifth inning to take the lead for good. An RBI single by Kendall George and a two-run single by Logan Wagner provided the runs needed for the win.

I’m not sure if the Stolen Futures Games are more akin to The Hunger Games, Squid Games, or the Bruce Lee Enter the Dragon tournament; however, it is apparent that the futures of Josue De Paula and Zyhir Hope were stolen in Atlanta. Since coming back from that game, the two are a combined 0-for-15 with 10 strikeouts.

Low-A Rancho Cucamonga

It was not a fun Saturday night for the Quakes, who made three throwing errors, had a passed ball, got caught stealing on their only stolen base attempt, and scored zero runs in a 7-0 snoozer loss to the Lake Elsinore Storm (Padres).

Transactions

Triple-A: On Friday, pitcher Nick Nastrini cleared waivers and was sent outright to Oklahoma City, off the 40-man roster.

Double-A: Pitcher Jacob Meador was placed on the 7-day injured list.
