It wasn’t a no-hitter or even a shutout, but it was vintage Clayton Kershaw, and it was a treat for the 3,085 on hand at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in downtown Oklahoma City to witness first hand.
The Dallas, TX native and Dodgers first-round draft pick in 2006 out of Highland Park High School in Dallas allowed three runs on five hits in his 5.0-inning rehab start with the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets against the El Paso Chihuahuas. He made 66 total pitches, of which 44 were strikes. Unfortunately, two of those five hits were home runs. And though the future first-ballot Hall of Famer walked five Chihuahua batters, he also struck out four of them.

Although El Paso ended up crushing OKC by a final score of 13-4, the game was tied at 3-3 when Kershaw exited after his 3.0 innings of work. As such, and because the Comets managed to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, Kershaw finished his third rehab start with a no-decision. His first rehab start was on April 16 at Triple-A Oklahoma City and his second on April 22 at Double-A Tulsa.
Worthy of note, after allowing a first inning lead off single to Tim Locastro, Kershaw caught his former teammate attempting to steal second with his famous snap throw to first base.
