Julio Urías has likely pitched his last game in a Los Angeles Dodgers uniform.
On Monday, news broke that Urías had been arrested and charged with felony domestic charges, while attending a Los Angeles Football Club game on Sunday evening. He was released early Monday morning on a $50,000 bond.
Urías was previously arrested in 2019 for the same reason. He was suspended for 20 games, and agreed to attend a 52-week training program about domestic abuse. His girlfriend at the time also dropped the charges.
He will have a court date on September 27th.
In the meantime, the team released this statement –
The Dodgers somewhat have their hands tied if they would like to sever ties immediately with Urías. MLB’s rule state that a team can’t take any “adverse action” because of a domestic violence incident.
MLB is investigating the case, and players usually are placed on administrative leave by MLB while the investigation is ongoing. If he was to be suspended by MLB, he would become the first player ever to be suspended twice for violating the leagues. domestic abuse policy.
Urías’s contract will end at the end of this season, and is unlikely to be re-signed by the Dodgers after this huge offense.
We will speculate on how this will affect the starting rotation during the playoffs at a further time, as this is not the time for that. We hope Urías victim finds the help they need at this difficult time.
