It will forever be the final line uttered by fictional character Carl Denham (portrayed by actor Robert Armstrong) for which the epic 1933 film King Kong will be remembered:
“Oh no, it wasn’t the airplanes, it was beauty killed the beast.”
It (may) be a seemingly meaningless sacrifice fly by struggling Dodgers left fielder Michael Conforto for which Thursday’s 9-5 Dodgers win over the National League West last-place Colorado Rockies at mile-high Coors Field in Denver (may) be remembered, with Dodgers manager Dave Roberts‘ team collecting 12 hits in the 3:08-long contest. It was Conforto’s fourth-inning sacrifice fly to center that allowed Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts to tag up and score from third base with the Dodgers sixth – and game winning – run.
“Today it was good because the offense came to life, and so we got some big hits and took some really good at-bats,” Roberts told SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson postgame. “So, to come out of [this series] with a [2-2] split getting us into [this weekend’s] San Diego series, I feel good about it,” Roberts added.

And then there’s that Clayton Kershaw fellow.
Making his 15th start of the season, the Dallas, TX native and Dodgers first-round draft pick in 2006 out of Highland Park High School in Dallas picked up his eighth win of the season (opposite two losses) with a final line of:

“It was a great win today, you know. You can’t take anything for granted in Colorado, obviously,” the always gracious and humble future first-ballot future Hall of Famer said postgame. “So, you know, the bullpen came in, got the job done, shut everybody down, and offense with alot of early runs, which is awesome, and made some great plays defensively, and let’s get out of here,” added the 18-year MLB veteran, 11-time All-Star, and three-time Cy Young award-winning Dodgers lefthander.

The Dodgers very much needed Kershaw to be Kershaw on Thursday, as the NL West second-place San Diego Padres also won on Thursday to remain an uncomfortable one game back of the NL West first-place Dodgers.

As Roberts eluded to, the Dodgers open an extremely crucial three-game weekend series with the Friars beginning at 6:40 PM PT on Friday evening, with the top spot in the division at stake.
