Inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders: LADF and SoCalGas host mentorship event

by Erin Edwards
On April 30, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) and SoCalGas came together to host a dynamic STEM mentorship event at SoCalGas’ Energy Resource Center. The experience brought together students from Brotherhood Crusade, Kollab Youth and the Dodgers Dreamteam program for a day of hands-on learning and career exploration.
Through engaging breakout sessions focused on sustainability, engineering and the intersection of STEM and sports, students had the opportunity to connect directly with industry professionals and explore pathways to careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. A networking lunch and speed-mentoring session allowed students to gain valuable insight and build meaningful connections with representatives from SoCalGas, LADF and Dodgers business resource groups.
LADF Chief Program Officer Rachel Resnick and SoCalGas Vice President Andy Carrasco shared powerful personal stories to emphasize the importance of access, mentorship and representation in STEM fields.

Students also toured SoCalGas’ cutting-edge Hydrogen Innovation Experience (H2IE) and learned about the center’s role as a model of sustainability and green building innovation.
The event marked another milestone in LADF’s commitment to STEM and to creating access to career pathways for youth across Los Angeles — exemplified by initiatives like its College & Career Accelerator, which equips students with the tools, experiences and mentorship needed to pursue higher education and meaningful careers — and in SoCalGas’ ongoing investment in workforce development and education.
