One of the more intriguing aspects of Dodgers spring training is Mookie Betts as the regular shortstop, and this time taking over the position with far more than the 12 days notice before opening day that he got in 2024.
Betts remained at shortstop until getting his hand broken by a fastball in June, which sidelined him for eight weeks on the injured list. By the time he returned, injured list returnees and trade deadline reinforcements shifted Betts back to his old position in right field, where he remained through the postseason.
Though Betts is back at shortstop now, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll remain there all season in 2025, thanks in part to the flexibility on the Dodgers roster, with several players capable of playing multiple positions, including players like Tommy Edman, Kiké Hernández, and Chris Taylor, who could see time in both the infield and outfield. Newcomer Hyeseong Kim can play all over the infield.
Here are the players who started at shortstop for the Dodgers in the 2024 regular season:
- Miguel Rojas 67 starts
- Betts 61
- Nick Ahmed 14
- Edman 13
- Hernández 6
- Amed Rosario 1
Six different players started at the position last season, with 28 starts (17.3 percent) coming from folks who weren’t even in the organization to open the season. Six different Dodgers started at shortstop in 2023 as well, including three starts by Luke Williams.
Today’s question is how many Dodgers will start at shortstop for the Dodgers in 2025?
If you want to add which player you think will get the most starts at the positions, please have at it in the comments.
