To be brutally honest, there isn’t (wasn’t) a sole on the planet who didn’t see this one coming; well, except maybe Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, that is.
With the game tied at 1-1 with one out in the bottom of the 10th, and with Giants pinch-runner Christian Koss (for placed-runner Wilmer Flores) on third base after Dodgers right-hander Tanner Scott unintentionally walked Giants center fielder Jung Hoo Lee and intentionally walked Giants second baseman Casey Schmitt to load the bases, Giants catcher Patrick Bailey absolutely crushed Scott’s 96.5 four-seam fastball for a 388-foot grand slam home run to left-center field to give the Giants the 5-1 walk-off win.

“You know, that ball, I just looked at, above the zone, 97, and he hits a homer. It’s unfortunate, The results certainly doesn’t feel good. Doesn’t change anything, but, you know, he’s going through it right now,” Roberts said postgame of Scott’s recent struggles. “We just gotta continue to, you know, try to give him confidence, and when the time’s right, run him out there and expect good things to happen and expect it to turn,” added the Dodgers skipper.

The Dodgers lone run came on Dodgers left fielder Michael Conforto‘s 11th home run of the season, a 400-foot shot to left-center field, to lead off the seventh inning.

The (sort of) good news is that the NL West second-place San Diego Padres were shut out by the NL West last place Colorado Rockies 3-0 at Petco Park on Friday to remain 2.5-games back of the division-leading Dodgers, so there’s that.
Here’s how the division stands heading into play on Saturday, with 15 regular season games remaining for Dave Roberts’ team:
