Although the Dodgers ended up losing Monday night’s Spring Training game to the Angels of Anaheim by a score of 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning, 31-year-old Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow was outstanding in his third and final start of the Spring.
The Newhall, CA native and fifth-round draft pick in 2011 by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of Hart High School and traded to the Dodgers in December of 2023 from the Tampa Bay Rays made a total of 73 pitches (47 strikes) in his 5.0 innings of work, striking out nine Halo batters along the way
“Really good. He was in rhythm all night long. I thought he and Austin (Barnes) did a really good job together all night,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters postgame. “Delivery was consistent, the curveball was really good, the fastball commanded. He just was in sync and that was just really good to see. So, the final tune-up to get ready for the season really encouraging,” added the Dodgers skipper.
“Good. I felt on-time, everything’s all good. I thought the Spring has gone well. All the things I wanted to work on all felt pretty good,” Glasnow told SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson following his final Spring outing.
Glasnow certainly had a little help from his friends, including a solo home run to left-center field by popular Dodger outfielder Teoscar Hernández to lead off the top of the second inning to tie the game 1-1.
That first-inning Angels run came on Glasnow’s only mistake of the night – an ill-placed 95.7 MPH fastball that Angels left fielder Taylor Ward sent 426 feet over the wall in left-center field on the warm Anaheim evening to give the Halos the early lead.
Teo finished his night going 2-for-4, picking up his second RBI of the game (and the Dodgers fourth and final run) with a deflected single to left off Newman’s glove in the top of the fifth.
The aforementioned Barnes drove in the Dodgers other two runs with a two-out bases-loaded single to left in the top of the fourth to put Glasnow in position to pick up his first win of the Spring opposite his one loss.
Didn’t happen.
In his sixth appearance of the Spring, 23-year-old Dodgers minor league right-handed reliever Jose Rodriguez allowed three runs on three hits and a walk in the bottom of the ninth (including a lead off home run to right-center field by Angels designated hitter Jorge Soler) to gift the Angels the 5-4 walk-off win.
