Los Angeles is getting a game-changing experience that brings together the excitement of sports and the power of science this spring. GAME ON! Science, Sports & Play, a dynamic and immersive new exhibition, will debut at the California Science Center on May 15— offering visitors a one-of-a-kind opportunity to explore the fascinating connections between movement, athleticism and the science that makes it all possible.
Designed with the support of the Walter Family Foundation, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF), and the LA84 Foundation, GAME ON! is more than just an exhibition — it’s an invitation to discover, experiment and play. Across 17,000 square feet of interactive experiences, guests will engage with sports in ways they never have before, learning how the same scientific principles that apply to elite athletes also influence everyday movement.
Whether you’re a lifelong athlete or just love to play, GAME ON! offers something for everyone. Visitors can step up to the plate, test their agility and even train like an Olympian with activities such as:
- Swing simulation: Perfect your baseball or softball swing with a simulated pitch ranging from 30 to 60 mph.
- Soccer kicking drills: Learn how proper positioning and movement affect your ability to strike the ball with power and precision.
- Virtual swimming challenge: Experience what it’s like to compete alongside an elite Para athlete in a simulated pool.
- Mind-body exploration: Discover how breathing techniques and visual perception enhance focus, performance and well-being.
- The science of nutrition: Understand how food fuels performance and lifelong health.
- Beyond the game: Explore diverse careers in sports, from athletic training to broadcasting, coaching, and sports medicine.
With expert guidance from a diverse team of Los Angeles-based mentor athletes, visitors will see firsthand how scientific principles shape the way we move, play and compete.
The California Science Center is no stranger to bringing science to life, and GAME ON! is a natural extension of its mission.
“We’re excited to bring this innovative exhibition to our guests, exploring the intersection between science and sports,” said Jeffrey Rudolph, President and CEO of the California Science Center. “GAME ON! presents a unique opportunity to inspire fans and participants to explore the science behind their favorite sports, empowering athletes at all levels to improve their performance and prioritize their wellness.”
For Nichol Whiteman, CEO of the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, this is especially meaningful.
“Sports have the power to inspire, educate, and create opportunities for young people,” Whiteman said. “GAME ON! aligns perfectly with our mission to provide access to new experiences that promote physical activity, learning and well-being. We’re proud that this exhibition will engage youth and families across Los Angeles, reinforcing the vital role sports play in education and community development — especially as we look ahead to the world’s greatest athletes competing in Los Angeles during the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Renata Simril, President and CEO of the LA84 Foundation, echoed this sentiment, recognizing the importance of making sports accessible to all.
“I am looking forward to kids experiencing the transformational power of sports through this unique exhibit and learning the science behind the games they love to play,” Simril said. “I appreciate the California Science Center for taking an idea and developing an immersive experience, and am grateful for our partnership with the Walter Family Foundation and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation in bringing this vision to life.”
GAME ON! officially opens May 15, and will remain on view through at least the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. General admission to the California Science Center is free, ensuring that people of all backgrounds and abilities can enjoy this incredible new exhibition.
Visitors coming in groups of 15 or more will require a timed reservation for both GAME ON! and the Science Center, which can be made by calling 213–744–2019.
Whether you’re an aspiring athlete, a weekend warrior, or just someone who loves to move, GAME ON! is a celebration of the joy, science, and community that sports create. Get ready, Los Angeles — the game is about to change!
