Former Dodgers owner Frank McCourt sold the team back in 2012, but he retained ownership of the parking lots, ensuring that we still get to give him a bunch of our money all the time. He’s got a new idea now, one that would allow you to give him even more money on a monthly basis, but with the upside of having a place to live and being within walking distance of Dodger Stadium.
According to Urbanize Los Angeles, McCourt Partners is seeking to build a seven-story apartment building in Chinatown, just south of the stadium.
This week, an entity affiliated with McCourt Partners submitted an application to the L.A. Department of City Planning seeking entitlements for a new apartment complex at 766-788 W. College Street. The hillside property, which would also flank Figueroa Terrace and the 110 freeway, calls for the construction of a seven-story building which would feature 170 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above parking for 85 vehicles on two below-grade levels.
McCourt has also been backing Aerial Rapid Transit and its proposed gondola project, which would provide transportation between Chinatown and Dodger Stadium on game days. That project is currently in the environmental review stage, although it has received a lot of opposition from various sources.
The apartment complex, if approved, would be built over the course of 26 months, although there’s no proposed start date. It sounds like a very convenient place to live if you’re a Dodger fan, and all it will cost is a lot of money and knowing you’re in bed with Frank McCourt.
