Five Game 7 Moments That Made the Dodgers World Series Champions…Again

It was far from easy. It took seven games and 74 innings to beat the formidable Toronto Blue Jays, but the Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series champions. They are the first MLB team to win back-to-back rings since the New York Yankees 25 years ago. This may have been the best World Series and/or one of the best postseason baseball series, and there were many memorable moments. However, here are five moments in Game Seven alone that made the Dodgers’ World Series victory possible.

Five Moments That Saved the Dodgers’ 2025 World Series Win

With the game tied, Toronto loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Daulton Varsho grounded a ball to second base. It wasn’t hit hard enough to turn a double play. Miguel Rojas, who had injured himself on a spectacular play in Game Six, charged, fielded, double-clutched, and threw home. Catcher Will Smith caught the ball like a first baseman, keeping his toe on the plate to record the out. Los Angeles nabbed Isiah Kiner-Falefa by an inch to keep the game and the series alive.

He Made the Catch

In the middle of the bottom of the ninth inning, manager Dave Roberts replaced Tommy Edman, who has battled an ankle injury for most of the year, with Andy Pages. One out later, Ernie Clement lifted a high fly ball deep to left-center field. It looked like it would drop in for a hit and a World Series win for the Blue Jays. Except it didn’t. Pages made a running catch with his back to the infield and managed to hold on to the ball while colliding with Kiké Hernández, thus preserving the tie and the Dodgers’ life for one more inning.

MiggyRo Saves the Day with His Bat

The Dodgers were down to their final two outs. Miguel Rojas, who didn’t have a hit in a month, and who had been horrible against right-handed pitching all year, came to the plate against Blue Jays closer Jeff Hoffman. Rojas worked a full count and then drilled a pitch over the left-field fence. It was his only home run against a right-hander all season, and allowed Los Angeles season to continue.

The Catcher Comes Up Clutch

Toronto’s Shane Bieber pitched the top of the 11th inning. He got two quick outs, including getting Shohei Ohtani to ground out to first base on a pitch that sawed off the 2024 National League Most Valuable Player. Will Smith came up with bases empty and hit a mistake over the wall. The All-Star catcher, who had missed the last month of the regular season with a fractured finger, gave the Dodgers their first and only lead of the game. It turned out to be enough.

The MVP

Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been a road warrior all year, and he didn’t disappoint in the postseason. He threw a complete game in Game Two of the Fall Classic to earn a much-needed split. He reprised his role in Game Six, throwing six innings, giving up only one run. The next day, the Dodgers needed him again in the ninth. He closed out the game and the series in the 11th without allowing a run. His dominance earned him World Series MVP honors.

The 2025 Dodgers have a lot of superstars, but they also proved they had grit as well, and it ended up in a second straight championship.
