Minutes after their 8-0 shutout win over the National League West third-place Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field to clinch the 2025 NL West Division championship on Thursday, the Dodgers clubhouse turned into a literal shower (and bath) of champagne, as is customary with our National Pastime.
For those who may not know, getting champagne spray in your eyes really stings. As such, many (most) celebrating players, coaches, staff, and media types usually wear the provided goggles to avoid “the burn,” as it is often called.
Not future first-ballot Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw.
“No, I don’t want my shirt back, I don’t want goggles, I don’t want a shirt, I hardly want pants, Dave,” the career Dodgers ace answered, when SportsNet LA’s David Vassegh asked him if he wanted his champagne-soaked NL West Champions shirt back, which Kershaw had placed on his head just prior to the interview.

“You don’t get this very often in your life, you really don’t. You gotta celebrate every single moment and, ah, you never know, man, you just never know,” Kershaw told Vassegh. “And so, getting to celebrate something that’s been very hard for us to get to is special, and this is something special. So, we’re going to celebrate, it’s gonna be a lot of fun, and it’s so cold, it’s so cold, but it’s still the best feeling in the world, so I’m going to enjoy every second of it,” the champagne-drenched Kershaw added.

The Dodgers, who have now won the NL West a remarkable 12 times in the past 13 seasons, wrap up their 2025 regular season with a three-game set against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park in downtown Seattle beginning on Friday evening at 6:40 PM PT. They will then host Game-1 of the best-of-three National League Wild Card Series against the New York Mets beginning on Tuesday, September 30, with the start time yet to be announced. The series will be carried live on ESPN.
