After six years in San Francisco, the former Dodgers GM is back in Los Angeles with a new role
Getting the band back together doesn’t just apply to players for the Dodgers, it seems. Farhan Zaidi, who was general manager of the Dodgers from 2014-18, is back with the team as a special advisor to the front office, per multiple reports.
Fabian Ardaya at The Athletic, who first reported the Dodgers and Zaidi meeting in December, reported the pact on Monday, as did Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times, and Sonja Chen of MLB.com — the beat reporters on-site for spring training in Arizona.
From Plunkett:
Additionally, Zaidi will help Dodgers owner Mark Walter with his other sports properties. In addition to being the controlling owner of the Dodgers, Walter has investments in the Sparks, Chelsea Football Club and the Professional Women’s Hockey League.
Zaidi was president of baseball operations for the Giants for six seasons before getting fired by San Francisco in September.
In an interview on December 18 with Foul Territory, Zaidi confirmed that he met with the Dodgers, and also talked about what his potential role might be with a new team.
“It’s not important to me to get back into the GM role. If it happens, great. I know there’s so many different ways that anybody can help an organization,” Zaidi told Foul Territory. “I have friends who are GMs, and the chance to be a special assistant, to be an advisor to one of them, I think not only would it be great personally, but it would be nice professionally, too.”
