Dodgers’ Tommy Edman Day-to-Day with Injured Ankle

May 3, 2025 by Last Word On Baseball

Tommy Edman will miss a second straight game with an injured ankle, but could return on Saturday.

Dodgers second basemen and center fielder Tommy Edman will be held out of the lineup for the second straight game tonight due to an injured ankle, according to Fabian Ardaya of the Athletic. Edman is scheduled to undergo a full workout tonight, if all goes well he should be back in the lineup tomorrow for the second game in Atlanta against the Braves.

Tommy Edman said his ankle is feeling “much better” than a couple days ago when he first aggravated it. Same ankle that gave him trouble last year, but different part of it.

Will go through workout today. If all goes well, could be back in there tomorrow. https://t.co/XQ8tsPIxBc

Tommy Edman Day-to-Day with Tender Ankle

An Important Offensive Cog

Tommy Edman injured his ankle running the bases in Tuesday night’s game against the Miami Marlins. He has been an important cog in the Dodgers’ machine since being dealt from the St Louis Cardinals at last year’s trade deadline. The 2024 National League Championship Series Most Valuable Player hasn’t missed a beat this season. Edman has a .252 batting average with eight homers, which is near the top of the National League. Most recently, he came off the bench and hammered a walk-off base hit in extra innings.

Edman says the ankle is “much better” after a couple of days off. However, manager Dave Roberts wants to run his second baseman through some drills before clearing him to play. Edman’s return could boost a lineup that is embarking on a critical 10-game road trip and playing 19 games in 20 days.

Reinforcements May Be Closer Than They Appear

Starter Blake Snell, who has been on the injured list with shoulder inflammation will start playing catch next week. The Dodgers seem to be cautious concerning the two-time Cy Young Award winner’s return. Snell was shut down from a throwing program until the pain subsided.

A Boost to the Bullpen

Reliever Michael Kopech has been out since spring training with shoulder issues of his own. He has been throwing to hitters in Arizona. He will begin a rehab assignment next week, according to Roberts. This is welcome news for a bullpen that has logged the most innings in baseball this season.

The Dodgers will need all hands on deck during the long road ahead. The sooner Los Angeles gets healthy, the better.
