Landon Knack to Get Another Start for Dodgers
Will Knack Redeem Himself?
Knack struggled in Wednesday’s series finale against the Washington Nationals. He went 2 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and four walks, despite being staked to a 4-0 lead. His fastball was very hittable and he retired only 7 of the 15 batters he faced. His ERA is now up to 10.38.
Shaky Replacements
The Dodgers’ depth is being tested early as a result of Blake Snell‘s trip to the injured list. The first chance for the fill-ins to prove themselves has not gone as well as they would have liked. Justin Wrobleski and Knack have combined to go 7 2/3 innings, giving up 12 hits and 13 earned runs, with seven walks and six strikeouts. The defense has left a lot to be desired as well. The Dodgers’ first road trip of the season finished a lackluster 2-4. Right now, they don’t look like a team that will challenge for an all-time season-best 117 wins.
Good News on the Horizon
However, when the Dodgers return home on Friday, Freddie Freeman will return to the lineup. The veteran first baseman has been on the 10-day IL after tweaking his surgically-repaired ankle. His clutch bat and Gold Glove defense will provide a much-needed boost to an already potent lineup.
In addition, Blake Snell will not have anything done procedure-wise to his ailing shoulder. There was some speculation that he might need an injection, but it isn’t needed. Although there is no specific timetable for his return, he will resume throwing as soon as Monday.
The Dodgers currently sit at 10-4, but it feels worse. After all, Los Angeles started 8-0. They are hoping that some home cooking will right the ship and they can get back to playing good baseball. It all starts, of course, with quality starting pitching.
