The Dodgers signed power-hitting outfielder Teoscar Hernández to a one-year contract worth $23.5 million, a deal that was finalized on January 12, 2024.
Hernández brings power from the right side, having averaged 28 home runs and 31 doubles over the previous three seasons with the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays. That included hitting .317/.349/.628 with 27 home runs in 387 plate appearances and a 164 wRC+ against left-handed pitchers from 2021-23.
With the Blue Jays, Hernández won Silver Slugger Awards in the American League in both 2020 and 2021, and made the AL All-Star team in 2021, when he set career highes with 32 home runs and 116 runs batted in.
Hernández helps balance a Dodgers lineup that includes left-handed hitters Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, James Outman, Gavin Lux and, at times, Jason Heyward. Hernández joins the group of right-handers including Mookie Betts and Will Smith, plus Chris Taylor and Manuel Margot.
Hernández can earn up to $4 million in performance bonuses as part of the deal.
