The rotation gets help from SoCal native
Christmas came earlier for Dodgers fans as the winter of big spending continues. The Dodgers traded SP Ryan Pepiot and OF Jonny DeLuca for SP Tyler Glasnow and OF Manuel Margot. The trade was completed with a five-year, $136.5 million extension for Glasnow.
The Southern California native answers some questions in the starting rotation while Margot solidifies the platoon situation in the outfield. Regardless of the amount of money the Dodgers have spent this winter, the work is not completely done.
Starting Rotation
As of now, the rotation consists of Walker Buehler, Bobby Miller, Ryan Yarbrough, Emmett Sheehan. At the moment, the rotation doesn’t scream “healthy and ready for October.” If you swint your eyes, the rotation demands to be called the Pittsburg Pirates. Adding Glasnow adds some potential to the top of the rotation.
Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin should come in and make up a part of the rotation before the end of the year. Meanwhile, Shohei Ohtani will add major attraction points in the year 2025.
The Dodgers can’t be done, yet.
Buehler is coming of a second Tommy John surgery. Miller and Sheehan are entering their second season in the majors and his first full season. Yarbrough has been back and forth as a starter and a reliever.

Los Angeles needs more. As much as it pains to type these words, it must be said. Clayton Kershaw is no longer the answer. Just to be clear, the Dodgers should bring him back for his annual one-year deal. But he should not be relied on as the savior. Besides, he is coming off shoulder surgery and won’t be ready to pitch until after (hopefully) the All-Star break.
Options
Yoshinobu Yamamoto is one of the last two big ticket free agents of the winter still on unsigned. Baseball Twitter/X experts reported over the weekend he arranged a second meeting with both New York teams. He has also met with the Dodgers already and the Phillies. His window to sign with a team closes in less than 20 days.
The Dodgers are still one of the top spenders to remain on the short list, but if they don’t land him, what’s plan b?
Blake Snell is coming off his second Cy Young win but his agent is SUPER STAR Scott Boras. The Dodgers famously have lost most of his clients to free agency, which is not a good sign to land Snell. Snell is also expected to sign a big contract.
Lucas Giolito is also a native SoCal pitcher looking for a fresh beginning but is coming off a rough season. He played for three different teams last season and did not succeed in any of them. A fresh start is in the horizon for him. The Dodgers attempted to rebrand a pitcher like this last season and it did not work. Noah Syndergaard continued to stink throughout the season.
The other options for the Dodgers are to trade with someone else, but who? The Brewers? Miami? The Angels? The Cardinals?
