Dodgers Roster: Matt Sauer Selected, Justin Wrobleski Optioned

March 19, 2025 by Dodger Blue

The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of Matt Sauer and optioned Justin Wrobleski to Triple-A Oklahoma City before the series finale of the Tokyo Series.

To make room on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, Clayton Kershaw was transferred to the 60-day on the injured list.

Sauer was a non-roster invitee, making four appearances and striking out eight batters in 7.2 innings. The right-hander was a surprise addition to the Dodgers’ travel roster, but did enough in Spring Training to catch their attention.

Sauer was informed he would make the trip to Japan by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts upon exiting a game in which he somewhat struggled.

The 26-year-old made his MLB debut in 2024 as a member of the Kansas City Royals and went 0-0 with a 7.71 ERA in 14 games. In seven Minor League seasons, Sauer is 22-27 with a 4.37 ERA and 449 strikeouts.

Sauer was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 2017 Draft out Ernest Righetti High School (Ca.).

Wrobleski made four appearances for the Dodgers this Spring, going 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA. He fanned nine batters in 9.1 innings while boasting a 0.75 WHIP.

The 24-year-old made his Major League debut in 2024 with a 1-2 mark and a 5.70 ERA in eight games. The southpaw was drafted by the Dodgers in the 11th round of the 2021 First Year Player Draft out of Oklahoma State University.

Kershaw began the 2025 season on the injured list, which was expected after he re-signed as he recovers from surgery.

In 17 seasons with the Dodgers, Kershaw is 212-94 with a 2.50 ERA. He is 32 strikeouts away from becoming the 21st person in Major League history to reach the 3,000-strikeout mark.

Last season, the 36-year-old went 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA in seven games before missing the rest of the year with a left big toe injury.
