The official start of spring training is near
The Dodgers will officially start their spring training when pitchers and catchers report to camp at Camelback Ranch in Arizona on Monday, February 10. Their first workout for pitchers and catchers is one day later, and the first full-squad workout is set for Saturday, February 15.
Major League Baseball unveiled the first workout dates for all 30 teams on Tuesday. Because of the Dodgers and Cubs opening the regular season a week before everyone else, on March 18-19 in Tokyo, those two teams are allowed to begin their spring camps a little earlier.
The Cubs are the earliest starters this spring, with their first workout of pitchers and catchers in Mesa on Sunday, February 9. The Dodgers, who famously played all through October, are starting only a day earlier than most teams. Even the Rays have their first pitchers and catchers workout on February 11. Nineteen other teams have their first workout on February 12, and eight teams start on February 13.
Pitchers and catchers reporting is the official start of spring training, which means the Dodgers will be able to utilize the 60-day injured list to open spots on the 40-man roster if needed. Pitchers Gavin Stone, River Ryan, Kyle Hurt, Emmet Sheehan, and Brusdar Graterol are all expected to miss all or most of the 2025 season, so the team isn’t short on candidates.
The first Cactus League game for the Dodgers is Thursday, February 20 at Camelback Ranch against the Cubs. The spring slate of games in Arizona is truncated due to the trip to Japan, with the Dodgers set to play 20 games in 20 days, through March 11.
