The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned reliever Michael Petersen to Triple A-Oklahoma City on Wednesday. As Eva Geitheim of Dodgers Nation reports, Petersen has been with the Dodgers since July 9. He has made three appearances during his second call-up this year. His last outing for Los Angeles was on Sunday, when the Detroit Tigers beat the Dodgers 4-3 in a late-inning comeback for the second straight game.
Petersen has nine appearances thus far this season. He has a 3-0 record with a 4.50 earned run average. His second stint in the big leagues has been more successful than the first. He was initially sent down after giving up four earned runs in two innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Petersen has been one of the more reliable options out of a bullpen which has logged more innings than the Dodger starting rotation in the last month.

Seemingly opens up an active roster spot for Joe Kelly on Friday. They’ll still need room on the 40-man roster to activate Kelly from the 60-day injured list

Dodgers Option Reliever Michael Petersen to Triple-A
Time in the Minor Leagues
In his time at Triple-A Oklahoma City, Petersen has posted a 1.61 ERA in 23 games. Prior to 2023, Petersen spent time in the Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies farm systems before signing a minor-league contract with the Dodgers at the beginning of the year.
Roster Move
The Dodgers have yet to announce who will be replacing Petersen on the 40-man roster, but all signs point to Joe Kelly. Kelly has completed two rehab assignments for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Kelly, who has been sidelined since May 6 with a posterior shoulder strain, would be a welcome addition to a bullpen that has carried more than its weight this season.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said recently that Kelly could return soon after the All-Star Break. Kelly’s activation from the 6o-day injured list could come before the Dodgers open the second half at home on Friday against the Boston Red Sox. Joe Kelly won the 2018 World Series as a member of the Red Sox, defeating the Dodgers in five games.
