The middle game of the Dodgers’ weekend series against the Cubs at Dodger Stadium is the fourth major league start for Roki Sasaki, and his first repeat performance.
Sasaki walked five in his major league debut against the Cubs at the Tokyo Dome on March 19, but also had enough stuff to strike out three and limit the damage to one run allowed in his three innings.
Saturday marks an opportunity to build off last Saturday in Philadelphia, when Sasaki pitched into the fifth inning for the first time, and settled for allowing one run in four-plus innings. So far through three starts, Sasaki has a 4.15 ERA and more walks (11) than strikeouts (nine) in his 8⅔ innings.
Sasaki is not alone in his wildness, as Dodgers pitchers lead the majors in walk rate and total walks.
Right-hander Ben Brown starts for Chicago.
