The Dodgers conclude their opening weekend series against Tigers on Saturday. Yes, a Saturday since Sunday is an off day this week.
It’s the fourth year in a row that the Dodgers have a scheduled Sunday off day, and all involve interleague play. In each of the previous three seasons, the Sunday off day came during a weekend series against the Angels, which were two games at each place. In both 2022 and 2023 that Sunday off day was the day before the All-Star break, while last season’s free Sunday was in June.
Now, all interleague series are three games each. The Dodgers will play the Angels in two three-games instead of two series of two games each going forward. But for this weekend against the Tigers, the Dodgers opened the series on Thursday, domestic opening day, and end on a Sunday.
Roki Sasaki makes his Dodger Stadium debut in Saturday’s series finale, with right-hander Reese Olson on the mound for Detroit.
