Battle of lefties on the mound with Clayton Kershaw against MacKenzie Gore in the series opener
After winning all three series against their closest National League West pursuers, the Dodgers conclude their homestand by hosting the reeling Washington Nationals beginning Friday night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
The Nationals come to town having lost 11 of their last 12 games, including losing three out of four at home to the feeble Rockies. Thursday’s win by Washington in 11 innings snapped an 11-game losing streak.
In June, the Nationals are averaging 2.71 runs per game and have been held to two or fewer runs in nine of 17 games this month.
The Dodgers lost two of three games to the Nationals in Washington D.C. from April 7-9. Clayton Kershaw wasn’t active then but he is now, and gets the start on Friday night having allowed one run with 12 strikeouts in 12 innings over his last two starts.
Left-hander MacKenzie Gore starts for Washington. The National League strikeout leader has allowed five runs in his last five starts, over 31 innings. But somehow the Nationals have lost three of those games.
