Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star Will Smith was among the players named to the Team USA roster on Tuesday for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
Smith is joined by Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber, Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Brice Turang and Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson as newcomers to the USA team.
New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge, Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder Corbin Carroll, Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh and Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes were previously named to the United States WBC roster.
Smith played for Team USA in the 2023 WBC and split catching duties with J.T. Realmuto. Smith went 3-for-10 with a home run in three games.
The 30-year-old has been one of baseball’s best catchers since making his MLB debut in 2019 and is coming off another All-Star season with the Dodgers.
Smith hit .296/.404/.497 with 20 doubles, 17 home runs and 61 RBI in 110 games during the regular season. He later delivered one of the biggest hits in franchise history with his game-winning home run against the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 7 of the World Series.
Team USA will announce its full roster in the coming weeks. Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout has already verbally committed to playing in the 2026 WBC, and Mookie Betts could return to the team as well.
Dodgers participating in 2026 World Baseball Classic
Smith is the second Dodgers player confirmed to be participating in the 2026 WBC. Shohei Ohtani previously announced that he will play for Team Japan as the country looks to repeat as champions in the international competition.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki could also play for Team Japan, while Teoscar Hernández said it is his hope to be part of the Dominican Republic roster.
