The Los Angeles Dodgers landed in Tokyo on Thursday afternoon (local time) ahead of their Opening Day matchup with the Chicago Cubs next week.
As part of the Dodgers’ trip to Japan, they are going to play exhibition games against the Yomiuri Giants and Hanshin Tigers at the Tokyo Dome this weekend.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts already announced that Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow will start for the team in the matchups, though the order has not been set.
Glasnow is also expected to pitch against the Los Angeles Angels in the exhibition Freeway Series when the Dodgers return to the United States, via Doug Padilla of the Southern California News Group:
Glasnow still is expected to pitch in one of two exhibition games in Japan, and again in one of the three Freeway Series games against the Angels from March 23-25.
Glasnow is looking to stay healthy this year after his first season with the Dodgers was cut short due to right elbow tendinitis.
The 31-year-old worked with several specialists to correct his spine angle during the offseason, which should help avoid putting additional stress on his elbow.
Glasnow made three Cactus League starts this spring and allowed three runs in six innings with 10 strikeouts against one walk.
Roberts noted after Glasnow’s most recent outing against the Chicago White Sox that he is recovering better after starts and does not feel any discomfort.
Tyler Glasnow pleased with mechanics
Glasnow noted he was pleased with his mechanics after his first Spring Training appearance against the Cincinnati Reds earlier this month.
“It felt really good. I didn’t think about it,” Glasnow said.
“That’s kind of more for practice. I think Dave hit on it, but a theme of I’m going to try and work on it but when I go out to the game, just be as athletic as I can. I looked at a little video, and it looked good. I didn’t think about it. Mechanics felt solid.”
