So it comes to this. Win today to keep on playing. It’s a tough spot for a team with 106 wins like the Dodgers, but don’t say they’ve never been here before. Still, there appears to be either a sense of urgency or a desire to try anything different to spark a stagnant offense.
So, once again, Dave Roberts is turning to Gavin Lux.
When the lineup dropped ahead of NLDS game 4 against the Giants, it looked different from any lineup we’ve seen in this postseason so far.

Doc opted to bench the struggling AJ Pollock and insert Lux into the lineup. Cody Bellinger returns to first base and Chris Taylor moves over to left field.
Early in September, the infielder-turned-outfielder was looked at to bring a spark to an inconsistent offense. He went on a tear, batting over .360 for two-plus weeks before injuring himself running into the outfield wall in left center field.
Defensive concerns have kept Lux mostly on the bench up to this point in the postseason. However, now Roberts sees the urgent need for lineup help any way he can get it.
The Dodgers put it all on the line tonight at Dodger Stadium behind Walker Buehler, who is pitching on short rest. This, my friends, is what we play for… meaningful, anxiety-filled baseball.
