Pitching injuries keep piling up for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have transferred right-handed relievers Blake Treinen and Michael Kopech to the 60-day injured list, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. To add depth to a staff that has 12 pitchers on the IL, they have claimed J.P. Feyereisen off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks. In addition, they acquired right-hander Ryan Loutos from the St. Louis Cardinals for cash considerations.

Pitching Injuries Continue to Pile Up for Dodgers
All Arms On Deck
Los Angeles is entering a stretch of 19 games in 20 days, and they will need fresh arms. Michael Kopech, who “was a little behind schedule” in spring training, according to manager Dave Roberts, is dealing with a finicky shoulder. The timetable for his return is still being pushed back as evidenced by being placed on the 60-day IL and off the 40-man roster. Kopech was an amazing addition to the Dodgers bullpen in 2024. The right-hander was one of the best high-leverage relievers in baseball last year when he posted an ERA of 1.13. Kopech’s uncertain return date may be a blow to a Los Angeles bullpen that has already logged more innings than any other team in baseball.
Another Stalwart Arm on the Shelf
Blake Treinen was placed on the 15-day IL with what was deemed a low-grade forearm sprain in the middle of April. The right-hander felt something as he was warming up to come into a game. After an MRI revealed the diagnosis, Dave Roberts said the team “dodged a bullet.” There has been no timetable for Treinen’s return.
When healthy, the right-hander has been nothing short of spectacular for the Dodgers. His relief appearance in Game Five of the 2024 World Series proved pivotal for the Dodgers’ world championship. His 3.38 ERA this year is high for his standards. It may be a reflection of wear and tear on his arm.
Playing the Long Game?
The Dodgers are clearly unwilling to risk further injury to their premium relief arms. The depth that Los Angeles prizes will continue to be tested early and often.
