To say that the Dodgers bullpen is a mess would be a gross understatement. As we all painfully witnessed in Wednesday’s ugly loss to the AL Central second-place Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field, 30-year-old Dodgers left-hander Tanner Scott not only blew the save of what should have been future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw‘s first win of the season, he and 29-year-old Dodgers left-hander Alex Vesia turned what should have been a 4-2 Dodgers win into a 7-4 Dodgers loss.

But what’s done is done, which brings us to the point of this piece.
On Thursday afternoon, and on their very-much-needed scheduled off day, the Dodgers posted this on social media:

Now for the head-scratching.
Although Alexis Díaz has had a few good moments over his four MLB seasons with the Reds, the Humacao, Puerto Rico native and Reds 12th-round draft pick in 2015 out of Juan Jose Maunez High School in Puerto Rico comes to the Dodgers with a 0-0 record and (gulp) 12.00 ERA this season, having allowed eight runs on eight hits to the 33 batters he has faced over the 6.0 innings he pitched for Cincinnatti this season.
It gets worse.
Four of those eight hits were home runs.

Granted, 6.0 innings pitched is a ridiculously small sample size, and Diaz was an All-Star in 2023, but four home runs to 33 batters in 6.0 innings pitched is not what the Dodgers need.
Scratch away.
Play Ball!
