The Dodgers have company at the top of the National League West.
A high-chopping ground ball through the left side of the infield embodied two losses on Tuesday. The first was a 7–6 loss to the Angels in 10 innings. The second was their lead in the division.
With the Padres topping the Giants in 5–1 win in San Francisco, they tied the Dodgers for first in the NL West. Before Tuesday, the smallest divisional lead the Dodgers had this season was one game over the San Francisco Giants on June 14.
“We’re all frustrated. It’s not going to turn by itself,” said manager Dave Roberts. “We’re going to come back to work tomorrow and find a way to beat these guys this year.”
The Dodgers have been outscored by the Angels 37-25 in five games this season — all Dodger losses.
Teoscar Hernández and Dalton Rushing led with two runs batted in each on Tuesday. Freddie Freeman, Andy Pages and Hernández each had two hits among the team’s 11 against the Angels.

But as a team, the Dodgers went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight runners.
Shohei Ohtani’s go-ahead homer in the ninth brought life to the Dodgers. It broke up the third tie of the game and positioned the Dodgers for a comeback win. But Alex Vesia’s blown save in the ninth with one earned run on three walks and one hit tied the score at 6–6.

Jo Adell’s single through the left side of the infield in the 10th gave the Angels a walk-off win.
The Dodgers are now 5–6 in August. They are coming off the heels of a losing month in July (10–14).
“Every team’s going to go through this. Every pitching staff is going to go through this. Every offense, whatever aspect you want to look at it from, everyone’s going to go through it,” Rushing said. “And sadly, we’re wearing it right now. But we know what we have to do to be ready to play in October. I think tomorrow is step one of getting on the right track to be ready to compete.”
Gonsolin undergoes season-ending surgery
Right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin had pronator repair surgery on his right elbow on Tuesday. He will miss the remainder of the 2025 season.
Gonsolin was transferred to the 60-day injured list on June 19 with right elbow discomfort. He was initially placed on the 15-day injured list on June 7.
This season marked Gonsolin’s return after he missed the full season last year due to Tommy John surgery in September 2023.
Gonsolin made seven starts for the Dodgers this season. He had a 5.00 ERA in 36 innings pitched. He struck out 38 batters and issued 18 walks.
