Clayton Kershaw opened the 2025 season on the 15-day injured list when the Los Angeles Dodgers set their Opening Day roster for the beginning of the Tokyo Series.
He then was transferred to the 60-day IL as one of the two corresponding moves to select the contract of Matt Sauer.

Kershaw is continuing to recover from left toe and left foot surgeries that took place during the offseason. Dr. Neal ElAttrache perforfmed the surgery on Kershaw’s knee and Dr. Kenneth Jung operated on his foot.
Kershaw has been progressed well through his rehab process and threw his first bullpen session at Camelback Ranch on March 7.
He reached the next important milestone on Saturday by facing hitters at Dodger Stadium. Chris Taylor was among the batters Kershaw pitched to.
Kershaw presumably will continue with a progression that includes hitters at least one more time before a likely rehab assignment becomes part of the equation.
Kershaw made seven starts last year before injuries prematurely ended his season. He finished with a 4.50 ERA, 3.53 FIP and 1.50 WHIP in 30 innings pitched.
The Dodgers currently have Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Roki Sasaki and Dustin May in their rotation. Tony Gonsolin faced hitters on Friday as he works his way back from the 15-day IL. The Dodgers also expect Shohei Ohtani to pitch at some point in 2025, manager Dave Roberts noted he is still “a ways away.”

Kershaw recently expressed confidence in his recovery process and said he hopes to make his 2025 debut in June.
The earliest he is able to be activated off the 60-day IL is May 17.
