Fans have the chance to receive a Kiké Hernández bobblehead, Roki Sasaki bobblehead, both a second Shohei Ohtani 50/50 bobblehead of him at the plate and another of him on the mound, and, for the first time ever, a Kobe Bryant bobblehead in a Los Angeles Lakers uniform.
The bobblehead features the late Bryant with his iconic no. 24 jersey, with a pair of his signature Zoom Kobe 6 Protro Dodgers sneaker, and him holding a bat from the left side of the plate. The release date will be on Aug. 8, commemorating the iconic no. 8 jersey he wore during the Lakers’ dynasty of the early 2000’s.
Chuck Schilken of the Los Angeles Times has more on Bryant’s bobblehead night, while also drawing the parallels between the Lakers urge for a repeat championship with what the Dodgers currently face.
Team toasts
The Dodgers have adopted a tradition spearheaded by Miguel Rojas that calls for tequila shots after a series win or an individual milestone.
Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register writes about the adoption of this tradition, and how it has allowed the team to cherish the small victories from everybody in the clubhouse. Of course, the tequila shots will have to wait unless the Dodgers etch a series win over the San Francisco Giants this weekend.
The stove is hot
If there is one glaring issue the Dodgers are dealing with this season, it has once again been the unreliability and proneness to injury from the pitching staff.
The rotation is, and has, gotten key pieces back into the fold, but the bullpen has been hit the hardest this year. Jeff Passan of ESPN tabs Minnesota Twins reliever Jhoan Durán as the biggest potential trade piece for the Dodgers ahead of the deadline.
The 27-year-old Durán is putting up arguably his best season at the big league level this year, as he has posted a career-low 1.52 ERA and 2.29 FIP, while racking up 14 saves over 42 appearances.
